Dutch Embassy Designer: Dick van Gameren architecten
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The site of the Dutch embassy consists of five hectares of eucalyptus woods, dropping steeply into a valley. The historic villa on the edge of the site has been expanded, while the embassy and residence of the ambassador, three homes for staff members and the entrance are new. The landscape intersects the volume on the borderline of the two functions. At this point the road embedded in the landscape passes over the building, before dropping to the covered visitors entrance of the residence. The roof has been implemented as a shallow pond, a reference to the Netherlands in the uneven Ethiopian landscape. www.architecture-page.com Posted: 01/16/2009 digg | del.icio.us | stumble | email this

Moss Carpet Designer: Nguyen La Chanh
Location: n/a
The Moss Carpet looks at getting the grass to your feet, and that too in your loo! Made from imputrescible foam called plastazote, the mat includes ball moss, island moss and forest moss. The humidity of the bathroom ensures that the mosses thrive. www.yankodesign.com Posted: 01/16/2009 digg | del.icio.us | stumble | email this
